In our next lives, we want to be Larry Magid. Co-founder of Philadelphia's Electric Factory, Magid was on the front lines of the rock-n-roll revolution, booking then-little known acts like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Allman Brothers, and bringing down the house with Dylan, Joplin and Clapton. Van Morrison debuted Astral Weeks. The Who played Tommy for the first time on U.S. soil. From February of '68 to November of '70, rock history was made daily in a warehouse at 22nd and Arch, with the phone number LOVE222 and the iconic logo of long-haired, bespectacled, electricity pioneer Ben Franklin. Magid's team at Electric Factory Concerts also branched out to presenting shows at the Spectrum sports arena (where they once paid Mick Jagger $75,000 cash); the Academy of Music (a most elegant locale); Fairmount Park (for outdoor be-ins); JFK Stadium (for The Boss and Live Aid!); Atlantic City Race Course (for the A.C. Pop Festival—two weeks before Woodstock); the Bijou (where newcomer Billy Joel performed shortly after his famous WMMR recording of Captain Jack); and numerous other venues. Larry Magid has seen it all and done it all in his five decades of rock promotion, and we couldn't be more proud to handle his extraordinary collection over this auction and many subsequent auctions. Rarer-than-rare concert posters; bona-fide signed guitars from rock legends; mind-blowing hippie-era paraphernalia—it's all here in spades. And it all comes with Magid's iron-clad authenticity. Just cataloging the material has been a thrill ride in itself, so we can only imagine the ecstatic pleasure of acquisition for Larry over the years, and now, in turn, for our avid bidders faced with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To quote the Chambers Brothers from the Electric Factory's Grand Opening: MY SOUL'S BEEN PSYCHEDELICIZED! We hope yours is, too. Please Note: Every single autograph in the Larry Magid Collection was obtained first-hand by Magid during personal, concert-related interactions with the legendary musicians themselves. Every single autograph comes with Larry’s signed LOA attesting to its authenticity, as well as a Full LOA from JSA (specifically designating the Magid Collection). ALL CONCERT POSTERS HAVE BEEN EXAMINED AND EVALUATED BY ROCK-POSTER EXPERT PERRY PFEFFER. Every single poster, autograph, gold record, tour jacket, etc. has been safely stored in the Electric Factory’s offices from their time of acquisition up until this current auction.
