Description

One of the more interesting issues of the 1920s, the 1923 WG7 Walter Mails baseball card game set features both Major and Minor League players from the early part of the 20th Century, including a Walter Johnson card from his active playing days and several other HOFers.

Journeyman hurler John Walter "Duster" Mails played for three pennant winners in the Majors and won a World Series with the Indians in 1920. He produced this set during his days in the PCL, leaving a legacy of success on and off the field. Formatted as a deck of playing cards, this antique game totals fifty-six player photo cards with names, team affiliations and play by play outcomes printed at the bottom, plus one directions card, for a complete set total of fifty-seven.

Offered is a "red-back" version near-set of (52/57) average (GD to VG) with: Bancroft, Burns, Bagby, Benton, Bush, Basseler, Bentley, Chavezo, Critz, Daubert, Dell, Dugan, Duncan, Ehmke, Fonseca, French, Groh, Gharrity, Groves, Hargrave, Jacobs, Johnson, Kenworthy, Krause, Kremer, Maranville, McInnis, Morton, Miller, Mostil, Mails, Moran, Murphy, O'Neil, Oeschger, Peckinpaugh, Pinelli, Pipp, Ponder, Rice, Rommel, Schmidt, Siglin, Sisler, Skiff, Sutherland, Shupe, Sewell, Smith, Tierney, Uhle, Directions.
