Description

Big on tradition, the New York Yankees honored the memory of beloved star Lou Gehrig at their 1953 Old Timers Day with this commemorative brass plate. Formatted in the fashion of a baseball with etched stitching design elements, this 9-1/4" diameter heavyweight plate shows moderate wear including several small abrasions that do not compromise the integrity of the clearly defined engravings. Featured at the 12 o'clock position is a facial image of "The Iron Horse", topped by the words "In Memory of Lou Gehrig Native New Yorker". At 9 o'clock is the classic Yankees top hat and bat logo with the date "August 22nd 1953". The other embossed legends are located at 3 and 6 o'clock with "Played in the Year of the 300th Anniversary of the City of New York" and "Oldtimers Day Yankee Stadium".
