In his biography "Ee-Yah": The Life and Times of Hughie Jennings, author Jack Smiles colorfully describes the plight of the '05 O's this way: “The 1905 Eastern League season produced a fantastic pennant race which came down to the last day, September 24, when Jack Dunn’s Providence Clam Diggers won out over Hughie’s Orioles by one-half game. An unplayed game cost the Orioles the pennant. Providence finished 83-47, the Orioles, 82-47. ‘The hell of it is,’ Hughie said, ‘I had to lose to that wild-eyed Dunnie by the margin of a rain-out game.’” Offered are rare and striking portraits of 8 of Jennings' men: Doc Adkins, Snake Wiltze, Louis Sylvester, Bill O'Hara, Offa Neal, Charlie Loudenslager and Fred Burchell. The 5-1/4 x 6-1/4" cabinets feature classic ballpark backdrops and were clearly captured by a skilled photographer. There are period handwritten captions on the front and back. EX-MT overall with extremely sturdy mounts. This item has a reserve (estimated value $2,000 - 3,000).
