Baseball historians vie with those wishing to stake a claim as Mickey Vernon’s #1 fan for possession of this comprehensive collection of (5) scrapbooks. This painstakingly assembled and handsomely preserved archive is potentially the ultimate Mickey Vernon collection. These meticulous mementos chronicle the popular and productive AL first baseman’s career during the period 1943-1955. Featured is a fascinating array of period clippings and original wire, professional and personal photographs. Standout souvenirs located in the earliest book include several of Vernon’s Washington Senators uniform insignia with a “W” logo on the first page and a number “4” and his name tag on the last page. Additional highlights are: (3) signed photos (“9”, “8”, “5”, no authentication due to time/costs); (5) Baseball Magazine premiums with (4) loose (avg. EX); 8/17/48 Clark Griffith Tribute program (EX-MT) scored vs. Yankees (DiMaggio 1-3); several advertisements; and numerous Type I period photos including various team, group and individual player photos along with a handful of press photos corresponding to featured newspaper clippings. The (5) scrapbook albums display in excellent condition.
