Issued at since-razed venues prior to World War II, these (15) vintage baseball scorecards/programs include some incredibly well-preserved examples! Highlights include:
1909 Brooklyn Superbas vs. Philadelphia Phillies: a thick-stock 5-3/8 x 6-7/8” scorecard with pre-printed lineups; scoring grids marked in black ink to document what appears to be a 1-0 Brooklyn win. Of note is that with the presence of Wally Clement in the Dodgers lineup, the item can only date to the 1909 season, yet there were no 1-0 wins over the Phillies that year. Scorecard likely issued by an independent vendor.
1910 Morristown Athletic Association vs. Newark Colored Giants: the eight-page guide presents minimally (NM) with advertisements and unmarked scoring grids that feature pre-printed lineups of the New Jersey combatants.
1923 Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox: issued at League Park with scorecards marked in pencil to document a 3-1 White Sox win in the opener of a June 30 doubleheader; eight-page program has thick-stock center pages with pre-printed lineups listing Hall of Famers Harry Hooper (who homered to lead off the game), Eddie Collins and Ray Schalk for the visitors; and Tris Speaker and Joe Sewell for the hosts. Presents nicely but has minor separation along spine and hole punchings to facilitate previous binder storage.
1924 Philadelphia Athletics vs. Washington Senators Scorecard: issued at Shibe Park for a contest during Washington’s first and only World Series championship season; features pre-printed lineups and is scored in graphite pencil. Presents (VG) with edge fissures and multiple creases
1934 Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals Scorecard: issued at Forbes Field, the tri-fold thick stock scorecard presents (GD) with wear and a vertical compacting fold; signed in graphite pencil (average “7-8” strength) by Freddie Lindstrom, Tom Padden and Lloyd Waner (auction LOA from JSA)
1936 St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Bees Scorecard: issued at Sportsman’s Park and scored for the opener of the July 19 twinbill, the thick stock scorecard (VG) features pre-printed lineups and is scored in graphite pencil to chronicle an 8-1 Redbirds triumph in which Joe Medwick and Leo Durocher combined for five hits.
