A trite expression has it that the “Third time is a charm” in professional sports. In the matter of the 1936 Boston Redskins, however, this mantra did not hold true. In the franchise’s final season before departing for Washington, D.C., the “Skins became Eastern Division Champions by default (as the only team with a winning mark). Having been felled twice by the Green Bay Packers during the regular seasons, the Redskins bowed to Green Bay in the title game, as well. Issued at Green Bay’s City Stadium on October 11, 1936, this gameday program is a rare survivor from both the Redskins’ final season in Boston and the Packers’ first-ever postseason championship campaign. The 20-page guide presents nicely with very faint vertical creases. For the sake of accuracy, we note a series of transparent tape strips applied to one of the center (roster) pages to mend small tears. Covers and pages remain intact.
