This fine beauty is as good as it gets for a 1930s signed photo of the Big Train. So much so, in fact, that the exact one is among a mere two dozen definitive autograph exemplars shown on Johnson's page of the PSA website! (Viewable on our site by clicking here.) It's an endearing shot of the then-Indians manager in his home threads with a serene expression on his aging face and with man's best friend by his side which is apropos because Johnson was an avid breeder who raised dogs out of a kennel on his Maryland farm, and who hosted regular fox hunts. (A related image is also linked on our website.) The dark fountain-pen "8" inscription and signature reads, "Best Wishes / C.B. Martin / Walter Johnson." Strong image clarity and a reverse studio stamp ("HERBERT REBMAN / Photographer") appear to indicate Type I status. There is typical minor peripheral wear of the period. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
