Comic fans jump into action for this Marvel Comics "Iron Man" original artwork. This 11-1/2 x 17-1/2" board is the work of George Tuska, who penciled the Iron Man comic book series for a ten year run spanning issues #5-106. Tuska (d.2009) was a Marvel mainstay in the 1960s-1970s and his great versatility led to work on numerous titles over the years. Here we see Tuska's artwork for the 1971 cover of Iron Man issue #40. Titled "Night Walk!", this piece sees our hero tackling a squadron of bad guys in a dynamic aerial battle. Professional editorial markings are noted throughout and while this piece shows moderate signs of age/wear, it remains sturdy and appealing with a great look of period authenticity. Speaking of authenticity, this piece comes from the personal collection of a 1970s Marvel editor. The reverse bears a Comics Magazine Code Authority approval stamp dated "2/12/71" and an accompanying mailer is addressed to this editor, who has stated that the return address is written in Stan Lee's hand. This return address is hand printed in full with "Stan Lee, 635 Madison Ave., NYC NY 10022" and a metered postage stamp is dated "3/26/71". Also included is a copy of the Iron Man #40 comic book (VG) this front cover artwork was created for. Thanks to spot on performances by actor Robert Downey Jr. in a series of blockbuster movies of late, the Iron Man character is more popular than ever and associated items are in ultra high demand.
