Description

In 1965 the New York Yankees slid into their first extended lull since the WWI era. In 1966 they finished last for the first time in more than fifty years, and the team didn't recover until George Steinbrenner became "The Boss" in the 1970s. One bright spot throughout the Yankees' terrible downturn, was Mel Stottlemyre. The ace of the Yankees pitching staff from 1965-1973, Stottlemyre managed three 20-win seasons between 1965-1969 with some crummy teams, and we can only wonder what his win totals would have been had he played for the Yankees in the 1950s. Brighten up your collection with this Stottlemyre single-signed OML/Selig baseball. This clean, slightly off-white ball reports as a (NM+) example and Stottlemyre's sweet spot signature registers ("8-9") potency. A first rate coach in his latter days, Stottlemyre battled cancer for twenty years, before succumbing to his illness in 2019. Steiner COA/sticker.
