One of the top players of the early 20th Century, New York Giants team captain Larry Doyle (d.1974) held a number of NL records for second baseman when he retired in 1920. Teamed with the great Christy Mathewson, he helped lead the Giants to three consecutive pennants in 1911, 1912 and 1913. Advanced autograph collectors will certainly enjoy the chance to take home this extremely rare and unique Doyle single-signed baseball, which is signed as ""Laughing" Larry Doyle". Given his departure nearly fifty years ago, Doyle's autograph is fairly tough on any medium, but it is especially hard to find on a baseball.
What really sets this pleasing example apart, is the inclusion of the "Laughing" inscription. Spanning the west panel and sweet spot of a MacGregor "Official League B65" model ball, Doyle's black ballpoint pen endorsement is neatly applied and still shows ("6-7") strength after all these years. The ball's surface is shaded between off-white and light-cream, and though the factory labeling stamps are moderately faded, all lettering/numbering remains discernible. Laugh your way to collecting glory, with this pleasing autograph from an important "Deadball Era" star. Full photo LOA from JSA.
