Following an outstanding playing career, Ben Chapman (d.1993) sullied his own reputation by hurling racial slurs at Jackie Robinson, while serving as manager of the Phillies in 1947. So instead of being remembered as a lifetime .302 hitter and a league leading base stealer, he is recalled for harsh, unsportsmanlike conduct. Chapman recalls another piece of baseball history, with this single-signed OAL/Brown baseball (NM+). Applied to the left of the sweet spot on a side panel, Chapman's concise autograph shows ("8-9") strength and he has included the inscription "1932 Yankees", a reference to the team famous for winning the World Series that featured Babe Ruth's "called shot". JSA sticker only.
