A two-sport pro athlete, Don Grate (d.2014) was both an MLB and NBA player. While his time at the top was brief, he enjoyed a lengthy minor league baseball career. Near the end of his playing days with the Minneapolis Millers, the rocket-armed Grate made a record throw, when he hurled a baseball 445 feet and 1" on 8/27/56 at Metropolitan Stadium. Grate commemorated his feat with this single-signed and inscribed baseball lot of (15). All of these balls are OML/Selig types that generally present as (EX to NM), with the exception of (1) with considerable contact marks. Grate has signed all in similar fashion, with average ("7-8") strength sweet spot autographs sandwiched between two inscriptions, with the distance of his throw noted on the north panels and the date of his record accomplishment on the south panels. Auction LOA from JSA.
