This fine piece of lumber was sold in its day for $1.00 and advertised as "A large bat with more bulk throughout and a somewhat heavier handle, handturned." But the real selling point was no doubt Turkey Mike Donlin—one of the most colorful characters in the annals of baseball. Donlin was a premier hitter of the Deadball Era and probably headed for the Hall of Fame, were it not for his competing interests in stage-acting, carousing and alcohol, all of which cut short his playing career. Here, the all-important brand area with Donlin's name ("SPALDING / GOLD MEDAL / M.J. Donlin / AUTOGRAPH") is EX-MT, and the 33-1/2" bat on the whole is VG with age/contact wear to the barrel and knob.
