Put time on your side, with this antique boxing toy. Looking like a long lost ancestor to the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, this mechanical boxing figure set remarkably reports in working order. Two lithograph paper coated wood boxers stand 5-1/2" tall, on top of an 11 x 1-1/4 x 1" base lettered "TIME!" on the front, while the back of the base is adhered with a small bit of the manufacturer's label, that unfortunately does not show enough detail to determine the maker. Metal levers behind the back foot of each combatant operate smoothly when depressed, propelling the wood boxers at each other, with their riveted arms windmilling towards each other to deliver uppercut blows. The figures are gloved, post dating the bare knuckle era, while their trunks cover the their knees, suggesting a late 19th Century to early 20th Century origin. Both fighters are wearing tank top shirts, likely considered a touch of modesty suitable for children of the day. Considerable age appropriate wear is evident, including a possible repair on the front leg of the fighter in the green trunks, however this condition is fairly unobtrusive and this ancient creation is drenched with authentic period appeal.
