Description

No fan of paper money, Congressman Garfield gave important speeches supporting the gold standard during his 1868 re-election campaign—the results of which he references here: "In the last Election my opponent was Mr. McEwen. He received 9,759 votes. I received 20,187. I am Chairman of Com. on Banking & Currency." Measuring 5x8, the fold-over, four-panel page has "Official Congressional Directory" printed text on the inside and Garfield's handwritten letter on the outside. VG condition with a "9" signature. Full LOA from JSA.
