Finding a ticket from the 1985 NBA All-Star Game is not a piece of cake mission. Infinitely tougher is finding a ticket from this All-Star Game weekend's "Slam Dunk Contest". Surely many who attended the 35th NBA All-Star Game on 2/10/85 kept their ticket stubs as souvenirs of the big game, but it is likely a good number of those fans skipped the previous day's activities in favor of an organized party, or maybe an impromptu get together at a local Indianapolis watering hole, and to those who did attend, it simply may not have occurred to them that keeping a ticket from an auxiliary exhibition event was worthwhile. For whatever reasons, surviving examples form the 2/9/85 "All-Star Saturday" event are seldom seen.
Score a bright, glossy (VG) example from the 2/9/85 All-Star Saturday with this rare full ticket. This thirty-five year old ticket is printed with the day's activities, which were the "Schick NBA Legends Classic" and the "Gatorade Slam-Dunk Championship". The NBA started featuring the Slam-Dunk contest for the first time just one year earlier and this second ever contest came down to high-flyers Dominique Wilkins of the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls rookie Michael Jordan. While "His Airness" finished second in his first time competing in this aerial skills display, he went on to turn the tables in 1988, topping Wilkins for his second consecutive Slam-Dunk championship.
