The last time we had the pleasure of offering one of these dazzling rarities was back in 2013, when an example sold for over $4,000. This beauty likewise showcases HOFer Pud Galvin on the resplendent cover and is meticulously scored in pencil. But whereas that predecessor recorded a game against the little-known Brooklyn Grays, the scorecard presented here features the very best team of the day. Indeed, the 1886 Detroit Wolverines were a dominant powerhouse who went 87-36 on the year and boasted HOFers Dan Brouthers, Sam Thompson and Ned Hanlon, along with ace pitcher Lady Baldwin. Baldwin's annus mirabilis included a league-leading 323 strikeouts and 42 wins—still the second-highest mark in history by a southpaw. Measuring 3-7/8" x 6-1/4" when closed, the scorecard's jaw-dropping color cover delivers Galvin's illustration-style portrait, while the back cover advertises the Pittsburg Times newspaper and the "Close of Season, Championship Games" against the Athletics, Brooklyn, Baltimore and Metropolitan. VG/VG-EX overall. Note: this item has a reserve (estimated value: $2,500-$5,000).
