Description

Witness the beauty of "Kodachrome" with this 1953-1955 Dormand Baseball Postcard near set of (44/49). Populated for the most part with New York Yankees, the Dormand set also features several Brooklyn Dodgers stars and a few others. Printed with facsimile autographs, this challenging series was issued in a size of 3-1/2 x 5-1/2" with thirty-eight different subjects plus variations adding up to a total of forty-nine different standard size PCs. There are also three over-sized types with two Mantle 6x9 variations and one Rizzuto 12x9 card, so a "master set" could be said to consist of fifty-two regular/jumbo cards. As this lot also includes (2/3) jumbos, we're upgrading the title to a near master set of (46/52), which is absent (5) standard size cards and (1) jumbo.

Condition ranges (VG to EX+) and PCs are unused unless noted, with: (44) standard size: #101 Rizzuto "large autograph parallel to top, #101 Rizzuto "autograph angles down", #102 Berra, #103 Lopat, #104 Bauer "small autograph", #105 Collins "patch on shoulder, autograph at top", #105 Collins "no patch", #106 Houk, #107 Miller, #108 Scarborough, #109 Reynolds, #110 McDougald "small autograph", #110 McDougald "large autograph", #111 Mantle "bat on shoulder", #111 Mantle "batting pose", #112 Mize signed on the reverse ("9", no authentication due to time/cost restraints), #113 Stengel "autograph at top", #114 Shantz "autograph parallels top", #115 Ford, #116 Sain "beginning wind-up", #116 Sain "leg kick", #116 Sain "with car dealership" #117 McDonald, #118 Woodling, #119 Silvera, #120 Bolling, #121 Pierce, #122 Carrasquel, #123 Miranda, #124 Erskine, #125 Campanella (FR, surface loss at corners), #126 Coleman, #127 Reese, #128 Furillo, #129 Hodges, #130 Martin, #132 Noren (used with postmark), #133 Slaughter (PR, pinholes and adhesive residue), #134 Gorman, #135 Robinson, #136 Crosetti signed on the reverse ("9", no authentication), #138 Konstanty (used with postmark), #139 Howard, #140 Skowron (PR, surface loss at corners); and (2) jumbo size: Mantle "bat on shoulder" (PR, pinholes and creasing), Rizzuto 12x9 (GD).
